Two weeks ago I ran a poll here about political label preference. The majority of the 250 American respondents, 63%, identified as Democrats. The next highest number of American respondents identified as Socialists (16%) and Independents (10%).
Last week I ran a poll about how we voted in the general election. The vast majority of American respondents in this poll — 93% — voted for Hillary Clinton in the general election. Only 5 out of 261 (2%) indicated that they chose not to vote for president.
Taken together, these polls suggest a couple of things. First, we vote. Our turn-out rate is vastly higher than Americans in general. Second, we voted overwhelmingly Democratic in the general election, whether or not we identify as Democrats. By we I mean the engaged readers who participate in these sort of polls. Since they’re unscientific polls, we can’t say how well they represent everyone who reads Daily Kos. But as I pointed out last week, these small polls on the side of the page, when they get decent participation, can do just as well at quantifying the engaged readership as front page polls do, which capture thousands more votes.
In today’s poll, we’ll look at demographics. Thanks for participating.
