This is perhaps one of the biggest evils of Trump. He distracts us and the media daily, from some really big things, and today, I sure see it here, on the rec list and on the front page.
Today it’s all about Kelly and gold star families and Florida rep, Frederica Wilson. OH YES, this is an important conversation to have. They are ALL important conversations to have, including the freedom of football players to take a knee.
Tomorrow it will be something else. By next Monday at the least.
Meanwhile, here’s what the senate passed today. Now admittedly, it’s a “budget preview” IOW, not a done deal or a line by line. But for right now it includes 200 BILLION dollars in cuts to mandatory programs.
Including $450 billion from Medicare over the next 10 years.
This is ALL ABOUT TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH. It’s not one bit more complicated than that.
The Senate approved the Republican-backed budget Thursday night, a major step forward for the GOP effort to enact tax cuts.
The budget’s passage will allow the GOP to use a procedural maneuver to pass tax legislation through the Senate with 50 or more votes, removing the need for support from Democratic senators.
Oh, and then this:
The budget opens the door to expanding the federal deficit by $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
People, I know Trump is a whirling dervish of disgust, distraction and chaos, and so are ALL those who work for him in the White House. But as I have said over and over again, IT’S THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THAT WE NEED TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST. It’s the Republican Party who passed this latest budget wannabe. It’s congress, the republican congress.
Y’know, all this talk about civil war in the Republican Party, yada, yada, yada, heard it all before, and let me tell you, they’re still standing and getting ready to rob you of your medicare and your social security. They took a big step towards that today, and yet the country is in awhirl over Kelly vs. Wilson.
They like to call these things “entitlements,” and like with words such as “liberal” they’ve succeeded in making entitlements a dirty word. But it’s not. Every single American who works pays FICA taxes, self employed people pay DOUBLE FICA taxes. The deal is and always has been, you pay a third, your employer pays a third and the government pays a third. (You pay double if you’re self employed because you’re considered both an employee and an employer.)
Meanwhile, the government uses our FICA taxes for all manner of things, till they have to pay them out to us. And at that point YES, we ARE ENTITLED to the deal we were promised.
How can I say this? Again, it’s not that that every Trump fart isn’t worthy of discussion. His aim is cultural and social division, and he hits the bullseye almost every day. But NO, it’s not as important as what the GOP has up its sleeve for ANYONE under about 60 years of age right now, although if this becomes reality, EVERYONE under 65 years of age will suffer.
Millions and millions of people will suffer.
Because there’s no doubt about it, America is as ageist as it is any other “IST” and unless you’re in a very small minority, your ability to earn a decent living past 65 is going to be next to nil, and you’re going to need every dime of the social security and medicare you helped pay for.
And yet, except on line, I did not hear ONE WORD ABOUT THIS ON THE NEWS TODAY. NOT ONE WORD. And hardly a word here.
THIS is how they’re winning people. They say Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Well let me just say, there’s no greater fiddler than Trump, and behind his magic fog machine, the GOP is running straight for what they’ve always wanted to do---cut and mame SS and Medicare. To give tax cuts to the rich.
Some things are complex, this isn’t.
I thought this was the third rail in this country. I thought any talk of it would cause an uprise. I was wrong. Everybody is too busy being appalled by Trump’s daily farts.
We have to get past this. We have to pay attention to the really big things that are happening as we also discuss whether the NFL players should be allowed to take a knee.
Yeah, I am shocked this was not newsy enough here today.
