A far-right Republican outside political group called Missouri Alliance for Freedom, which is supporting Republican nominee Mike Cierpiot in an upcoming Missouri State Senate election in the Kansas City suburbs, is going straight into the gutter of racist politics by blatantly lying about paralegal and Indivisible Kansas City co-founder Hillary Shields, who is the Democratic nominee in the special election:
Now Missouri Alliance for Freedom has jumped into the campaign, running an ad alleging Shields never called for the removal of a St. Louis County legislator who said earlier this year that she hoped President Donald Trump was assassinated.
Shields said at the time that the assassination comment was inappropriate and that the lawmaker in question should resign.
The “St. Louis County legislator” referenced is Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D-University City), who is black. Cierpiot, Shields, and Republican-turned-independent perennial candidate Jacob Turk, the three candidates in the special election, are all white. Cierpiot is someone who believes that politicians should be bought off and serve special interests, and it’s quite clear to me that a major supporter his campaign is extremely scared that Shields has a chance of winning and is resorting to racist, Willie Horton-style attacks against her. Shields is a fighter for democracy and common sense, and her grassroots campaign has already knocked on over 20,000 doors during her campaign.
The Missouri State Senate special election is in the 8th State Senate District of Missouri, which covers eastern portions of Jackson County, Missouri, and is scheduled for November 7. You can donate to Hillary Shields’s campaign here.
