Meet Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona. He sat down for an interview with Elle Reeves, the outstanding Vice News reporter who was on the, ground in Charlottesville, covering the white nationalist rally from start to finish. Reeves was interviewing him about a federal lawsuit brought by a constituent who Gosar blocked on Facebook. Rep. Gosar’s constituent contends the congressman is violating her rights:
J'aime Morgaine's congressman won't listen to her on Facebook.
So she drove from Kingman to Phoenix Friday to deliver a message to Republican Paul Gosar -- in a federal lawsuit.
"He's censoring, blocking us on a constituent page," Morgaine, an Army veteran, said in an interview outside the Sandra Day O'Connor Federal Courthouse.
"To me, it's a fundamental violation of his oath of office."
But it wasn’t long before the subject of the interview changed and Rep. Gosar ended up spewing a downright jaw-dropping conspiracy theory, claiming perhaps, maybe, some people are saying that left-leaning, philanthropic billionaire George Soros is secretly funding the neo-Nazis. This Gosar fellow really has no place in the United States Congress. From Vice News:
Gosar mentioned antifa repeatedly, and when VICE News noted that antifa is in the news because of the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Gosar responded with the suggestion that the rally was a false flag operation
VICE News: In fairness, antifa is in the news because of a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.
GOSAR: Well, isn’t that interesting. Maybe that was created by the Left.
VICE News: Why do you say that?
GOSAR: Because let’s look at the person that actually started the rally. It’s come to our attention that this is a person from Occupy Wall Street that was an Obama sympathizer. So, wait a minute, be careful where you start taking these people to.
And look at the background. You know, you know George Soros is one of those people that actually helps back these individuals. Who is he? I think he’s from Hungary. I think he was Jewish. And I think he turned in his own people to the Nazis. Better be careful where we go with those.
VICE News: Do you think George Soros funded the neo-Nazis who marched in Charlottesville?
GOSAR: Wouldn’t it be interesting to find out?
George Soros has long been the right wing’s favorite liberal boogeyman. As a Jewish teenager, he survived living in Nazi-occupied Hungary. And this nut job of a congressman has the gall to suggest that Soros is secretly funding neo-Nazis in America and that he may have turned people in to the Nazis! Needless to say, a representative of George Soros quickly and vehemently denied any involvement to Vice News. Read Soros’ statement and see the preview of the interview at Vice News.
The full interview airs tonight at 7:30 PM ET on HBO.
