As one of several mental health professionals who regularly post articles on Daily Kos, I feel compelled to present both sides. I track every reference to Trump and mentally ill on Google News so I rarely if ever miss an article.
Convoluted Reasoning
Even if Hillary is in fact mentally ill that doesn’t mean Trump isn’t, but this author thinks it does.
During the primary, Hillary Clinton was incessantly portrayed as being mentally ill from the supermarket aisle on the covers of the National Enquirer to Breitbart and Fox News. It is still going on, albeit with a different purpose.
The most recent defense against claims that Trump is so mentally ill he shouldn’ t be president comes from a small website called Conservative Daily News:
Hillary And The DNC Are Mentally Ill, Not Trump, by Jim Clayton
The author makes the conservative case that despite claims by liberals that Trump is mentally ill, Hillary Clinton is really the one suffering from a psychiatric disorder. They don't go into the disorder many or most Duty to Warn therapists who think Trump has, malignant narcissism.
Instead they “prove” that Hillary fits neatly into the diagnostic categories for narcissistic personality disorder:
Anyone who is drinking from the Clinton Koolaid is certifiably mentally ill. They suffer from Narcissistic Personality Disorder which is characterized by the following according to the American Psychological Association as expressed in DSM-V:
- Having an exaggerated sense of self-importance (Electing Hillary Clinton as President is the same as a pro sports owner hiring a coach who has never coached in a winning game)
- Expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
- Exaggerating your achievements and talents (Such as running for President based on your experience as Secretary of State, ever heard of Benghazi?)
- Being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate (Perfect mate? Bill Clinton is your spouse? Name one thing Clinton has done to improve the lives of any American?)
- Believing that you are superior and can only be understood by or associate with equally special people (Ask Matt Lauer from GMA, who Clinton demanded be fired for bringing up the email scandal. Clinton is beyond reproach is devoid of empathy and humility)
- Requiring constant admiration (And constant medical attention)
- Having a sense of entitlement (It is well documented that while serving as First Lady, the Secret Service used to refer to her helicopter as “Broomstick One”)
- Expecting special favors and unquestioning compliance with your expectations (Just ask Vince Foster how true this statement is)
- Taking advantage of others to get what you want (The Clinton Foundation)
My most recent article about malignant narcissism.
This is out of the same playbook being used on Fox and with Trump himself to distract from the Russian investigation. Make up a false narrative, which even if true, doesn’t change the possibility that both stories are true.
Of course, we know that Hillary isn’t mentally ill and would have made an excellent president and that the uranium sale (stop calling it a deal) was totally above board with no attempt made to hide it.
