I am having a speechless shocked moment, no, it’s an hour here. I had always assumed the forcing or encouraging of young girls on older men was maybe a fringe thing, you know, Mormon cults etc. Even though there were a number of older men 30-60’s who had tried or succeeded with me as a teenager.
Take a look at the #MeAtFourteen profiled by another diary here to see what 14 yo girls and boys are like.
Then there’s an op ed piece in the LATimes that points out that the Evangelical Christian and home school movement is pervaded by a culture of encouraging teens to date/marry older men. N fact it is apparently spoken of as (the girl) “courting” (the older man) and not the other way around.
Then I find out that in almost every state child marriages are legal. Sure, the law says 18 but there are exceptions if parents give permission, etc. There were more than 200,000 of these marraiges in recent history.
Sorry, I’m just too upset to say much more.
