This people are just monsters. If you own a private jet, Republicans want you to get a tax break. If you are a direly ill child getting your health care through the Children’s Health Insurance Program, well, good luck.
The diagnosis was dire: Roland Williams, a St. Louis boy with a megawatt smile and a penchant for painting, had an extremely rare form of lung cancer, oncologists told his mother in May 2016.
"They didn't think he would make it to see his 10th birthday," Myra Gregory said. "But thankfully the insurance was covering everything at that time, so we were happy to make it to see number 10 and 11."
Roland is covered under the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), a federal health insurance program that provides inexpensive coverage to nearly 9 million children in low-income families. [...]
But now Roland—who this week spent time getting ready for Christmas by painting ornaments in between hospital visits—is facing another blow: His health insurance may run out.
This is obscene. There’s no other word for it. Next week, all the Republicans who spent the past several weeks cooking up these ridiculous tax cuts for millionaires are going to be tucking into their Thanksgiving feasts, smug in the knowledge that their donors will be happy.
Nine million families will be wondering if they should pay for Thanksgiving dinner and try to have Christmas, or to save every single penny so their kids can go do the doctor.
Jam the phone lines of House and Senate Republicans. Call (202) 224-3121, and tell them to stop holding kids hostage and to pass a clean funding bill for CHIP and community health centers.
