Hey guys. I just read another diary about how John Conyers needs to resign right away due to accusations that nobody knows anything about, which were settled on the cheap. There are a lot of self righteous people demanding that we believe and act on things right away. I’m sick of it. It’s irresponsible. Stop it.
Sexual harassment, daily abuse and megalomaniacal behavior are a fact of life in every industry, institution and organization in every village, city, county, state and country on Earth.
So are false accusations.
Sometimes people really are so sensitive and sheltered that they can’t differentiate between assholery and harassment.
Sometimes people are straight up making up stories for a variety of reasons, whether it’s wanting attention, taking revenge, or just being weird.
People are weird.
And that’s why due process matters.
You can’t demand that lawmakers are held to a higher than legal standard and then hold your own standard for judging truth to be lower than a rube at a carnival. Relax. You don’t have to wrap things up at the speed of the 24 hour news cycle.

Ouroboros
Just a few points due to misunderstandings I see in the comments.
1. “Stop believing everyone” is entirely different from “Don’t believe anyone.”
2. But I kind of think believing anybody is dumb. We need evidence.
3. This does not apply to self-admitted abusers and kid touchers named Roy Moore and Donald Trump. When Moore describes how he met his wife, or when Trump admits on tape or in an interview that he grabbed women and peeping-tommed on teenagers, this is evidence.
4. Paying out a legal settlement rather than going to trial is not always an admission of guilt. Just as accepting payment for a legal settlement is not always an admission of lying to make money.
5. False allegations are vastly outnumbered by legitimate allegations and unreported events. I know this. I get it. But the existence of false allegations is why we have due process.
6. I get that due process for the court and for public opinion are different. But it should be an ideal we strive for because it’s a cornerstone of justice.
