Kellyanne Conway brought her special brand of smarmy, holier-than-thou dishonesty to the subject of “politicizing” mass killings in a Fox News interview. That means, of course, that she was attacking people who call for stronger gun laws in the wake of mass shootings, rather than looking at what her own boss said just a week ago after eight people were killed by a man driving a truck down a bike path in New York City. Here’s the White House-by-way-of-Conway take on 26 people shot to death:
Conway said that playing politics in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy is "so beyond any type of reasonable response."
"It's just like I said in Las Vegas over a month ago. You had families literally still looking for their loved ones through the rubble and remains in Las Vegas, running from hospital to hospital. There were people who were injured who went on to pass away, and yet people ... pointing fingers," Conway said.
On October 31, hours after the attack in New York City, Conway’s boss tweeted that “I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!” He quickly moved to calling for changes to immigration law and attacking Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer over an immigration policy passed on a bipartisan vote and signed by a Republican president.
But sure, suggesting that maybe there are problems with U.S. gun laws after the latest in a string of mass shootings is “so beyond any type of reasonable response.”
