Truly, we live in an amazing country, that has such people in it.
Vice had Frank Luntz go down to Birmingham and convene a panel with a bunch of self-selected Roy Moore supporters.
It’s worth watching, if only to catch a glimpse of the sheer level of self-delusion people will engage in to justify their own biases. Luntz is positively incredulous at several moments.
“Forty years ago in Alabama, there’s a lotta mamas and daddies that would be thrilled that their 14-year-old was getting hit on by a district attorney,” one voter said. “The women’s reputations were questionable at the time,” another voter said.
“There was still clothes on,” she added, dismissing allegations made by a woman who said Moore molested her when she was 14 years old. “As soon as the girl said she wasn’t comfortable, he took her home.” — news.vice.com/...
Personally, my favorite bit was a woman saying “god doesn’t expect us to be perfect, but he does expect us to repent for our sins”. Of course, Roy Moore hasn’t repented for anything. Instead, he and his supporters have done their utmost to demean and discredit his victims. Maligning the victims of your sins is what passes for “repentance” among “conservatives” apparently.
There’s also a discussion about how no black voters are in the room. 27% of Alabama’s population is black. There’s a woman who says the 16 women accusing Trump have “been proven” liars.
It’s the United States of AMAZING, Alabama edition. My brain’s doing an impersonation of an omlette after listening to it.
You know what you’ve got to do. I’m texting to GotV for Jones again today and through election day. Please do your part!
