The Western Representation PAC, a Super PAC that’s supported President Trump, decided to give a boost to Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore … by commissioning a 12-year-old in pigtails to interview him. The interview was done by one of its offshoots called the America First Project, which was founded by former Breitbart staffers including reporter Patrick Howley. As The Atlantic writes about the proposed vision:
He said he envisions the project as an “advocacy organization that is going to advocate for Trump administration policies that generally fall under a populist-nationalist window.” (He doesn’t primarily use the word “conservative.” Howley has lost patience with the conservative movement’s focus on cutting spending and entitlement reform. “Conservatives are not offering any solutions, all they’re doing is cutting government benefits,” he said.)
In Howley’s view, Breitbart has lost its street cred by trying to go mainstream, and it no longer provides a voice for the “populist nationalist” movement that Trump represents.
The preteen is Millie March, who became a conservative darling when she expressed her enthusiastic support for Trump at CPAC earlier this year. The project’s vice president Jennifer Lawrence (who is also a former Breitbart reporter) explained why they decided to bring the poor girl to interview a man with a long roster of women saying he preyed on them as teens in this video. She states:
We decided that we were going to bring Millie to Alabama, after everything that’s happened in this Alabama Senate race up until this point. We thought it was important to not only come here as Western PAC to support Roy Moore, but also to bring Millie here to show that there’s a wide range of people who support Roy Moore.
The interview itself doesn’t really provide anything new about Moore’s positions as a candidate. March asks about his opinions on the Mexico-U.S. border wall. Unsurprisingly, he’s in full support of it and says military force would be a great way to curtail immigration until the wall goes up. However, there’s still more than a few cringe-worthy and awful moments from the video.
Ugh.
This is a particularly weird (and sickening) move by America First, especially as Republicans are increasingly expressing their disgust for the party’s support of this child molester and sexual predator. Take this morning’s resignation from the RNC by Joyce Simmons of Nebraska, for example.
