The Hill reports that "Republicans fret over tax bill's unpopularity." They should be fretting.
A CBS News poll conducted last week found that 53 percent of people nationwide disapprove of the GOP tax bill and only 35 percent approve. […]
The bleak CBS poll numbers for the tax bill were in line with polls published earlier in the week by Quinnipiac and Gallup that showed 53 percent and 56 percent of the public, respectively, disapprove of the legislation.
Let's do a comparison and contrast here with the Affordable Care Act, which Republicans are trying to cripple with their tax bill by including in it a repeal of the individual mandate.
Throughout the seven-year history of the health care law, opinions about it have tended to be more negative than positive—or, less frequently, divided. But in February, for the first time, a majority of the public approved of the law.
That remains the case today, with 56% approving of the law. While that is little changed since February, support has jumped 12 percentage points since April 2016 (44%).
So 56 percent of voters approve of the law they're trying to destroy with a bill that 56 percent of voters hate. Republicans need to be worried about that. The American people aren't stupid. We aren't buying their lies anymore, and we're going to remember this vote next November.
Jam your senators' and representative's phone lines at (202) 224-3121. Tell them to vote "no" on the Republican tax bill.
And if you are in Maine or Arizona, these two really need to hear from you.
