So, now that Doug Jones has won, there is an opportunity for Republicans to start to acknowledge what is going on. Today Chuck Shumer called on Republicans to hold their vote on the tax bill until after Doug Jones is seated. Of course they likely won’t. They realize it will only become more difficult to get this lousy bill passed once Jones is seated. The people spoke yesterday in the Alabama election. If Doug Jones can win in the reddest of states, what is going to happen in 2018 Senate elections in states like Nevada and Arizona (or even Texas — go Beto!). Every step Republicans take toward extreme partisan action adds another nail to their coffin in 2018. It’s imperative for Democrats to reach out to their Senators and Representatives, especially in states with 2018 Senate elections, to let them know they are watching. To let them know that if they are going to pass tax reform, they must work with their Democratic peers to develop solutions that are bipartisan.
