Since many lawmakers are not listening to their constituents (e.g., pushing through an unpopular tax bill), we must work to elect representatives in 2018 who are not beholden to special interests. The recent election in Alabama has given us hope. In Texas, Beto O’Rourke (TX16), is running against Ted Cruz. Beto recently came to Fort Worth, Texas and here’s a snippet of what he had to say:
Some of the highlights from this clip:
- Texas has not elected a democratic senator for 29 years. (I have lived in Texas for 25 years and never felt that I had a senator who was responsive to my concerns. This needs to change!)
- Trump only won Texas by 9 points, even though Clinton did not campaign in the state.
- Ted Cruz’s favorability rating (38%) in Texas is lower than Roy Moore’s was in Alabama.
- O’Rourke has raised more money than Cruz thus far and he doesn’t take money from PACs.
- Nine months ago Cruz and O’Rourke were polling even at 30% each (with 40% undecided).
- O’Rourke has been holding townhall meetings all over the state.
- Donations are important, because it shows the race is competitive. You can support the campaign at: betofortexas.com
