Ady is a 33-year-old father with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). In spite of being unable to walk without a cane, breathe normally, or lift his own child, he has been fighting for his life and ours.
You may have seen a video or news report of Ady talking with Arizona Senator Jeff Flake on a flight from DC to Arizona over tax cuts that will affect people with conditions like Ady’s and so many others.
I caught him on Chris Hayes’ show, All In, the other night. Ady is a remarkable speaker and advocate for all of us.
Now he needs our help to help bring people with disabilities or limited funds to DC to protest the obscene GOP looting of America that they call “Tax Reform.” Ady’s Army need us to join them. If you can, please get to DC on Monday.
Protect Patients! A DC-Day-of-Action to Stop the Tax Scam Bill
Some are saying that "tax reform” - which is a clever name for a bill that takes away health care for 13 million people, targets students and working people, and jacks up tax rates for millions - is a done deal. But when you look at what’s really going on in Washington, it's far from a sure thing. This is a must-pass bill for Trump, Ryan, McConnell, and their allies, and even if we lose, we’re making it more and more costly to them to take our health care away. We’ve fought them all year, and delayed their disastrous agenda.
They’re going to try to vote on this bill Monday or Tuesday. We are going to stop them.

Throughout the year, thousands of people have traveled to Washington, DC to fight against the repeal of Obamacare and for our healthcare. We have won 5 times. In the next few days, it is very likely that the current tax bill will repeal the individual mandate of Obamacare and deny healthcare to at least 13 million more people in this country. In addition, the tax breaks that will be given to the incredibly wealthy and corporations will need to be paid for and they are going to cut Medicaid and Medicare to pay for it.We are losing our healthcare. No one is going to save us. There's no legislator or lobbyist or billionaire or app. Our only hope is people power and YOU.Please donate to get people to DC in the next few days to try to defeat this bill.Thank you.
Ady has been an advocate for all of us for years.
Ady directs two of CPD’s projects: Local Progress and the Fed Up Campaign. Local Progress is the network of hundreds of progressive local elected elected officials across the country dedicated to shared prosperity, equal justice under law, sustainable and livable cities, and good government that serves the public interest. Local Progress provides its membership with policy and governance best practices, space to build solidarity, and the opportunity to partner across cities as part of a national progressive movement. Fed Up is a national campaign for full employment and a reformed Federal Reserve. Before joining CPD, Ady was a law clerk to the Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin in the Southern District of New York. Prior to that he was a Liman Fellow with Make the Road New York, where he represented low-wage workers seeking to recover unpaid wages, engage in collective action, and obtain safe and dignified working conditions. He helped design and draft policy proposals to enhance the quality of low-wage jobs in New York City including the right to paid sick days, regulation of major retailers, and unionization of the car wash industry. He graduated from Yale Law School and Columbia College, cum laude.
Monday is Ady’s birthday. ALS is fatal. There is no cure, only the treatment he desperately needs so he can be with his wife and little boy in the time left to him.
Together, we can help give them a birthday present that will last. Together, we can help give him a birthday present that honors his life and advocacy. Together, perhaps we can stop this abomination of a TaxScam. We won’t know unless we try.
Ady hasn’t given up. Neither should we.
Thank you so much, wonderful ones.
