The Congress and the Media tunnel vision on tax cut plan and the near inevitable vote to pass it, we have another grim reminder of the crumbling national infrastructure.
Today in Washington an Amtrak train derailed off a bridge onto Interstate 5. No word yet on the number of casualities. Here’s to hoping it is not many.
This is the true price of the nihilistic political philosophy that government is the problem. Rather than acknowledging the need for common good projects funded by tax appropriations, the spawn of Taint Ronnie believe the answer is “starving the beast”, cutting taxes, cutting appropriations and waiting for private sector forces to invest and build the country.
We have been waiting for over 30 years and will still be waiting in another 30 years. Roads, bridges, railways, water systems and other infrastructure are basic common needs. Expecting them to be funded with a profit motive is obviously specious and odious.
The Democratic Party is not free of responsibility. They have in many ways embraced the “small government” and “free market” ideology. They continue to only debate the size and distribution of tax cuts, not the actual needs for the taxes.
Our system is sick, very sick.
