As happy as I was to hear about the charges against former NSD Michael Flynn, I’m afraid Mueller is too late.
Back in 2000 when the Supreme Court decided to put politics over the Constitution that they swore to uphold and allowed George W. Bush to be installed as President by overruling the rights of a state to properly recount the votes under its law, I said on another political forum back then that it was the beginning of fascism.
Some thought that was extreme, but alas -— here we are.
And I’m not in the mood to hear from folk — ‘Oh, how could this have happened’????
This is what happens when we don’t demand that the rule of law and due process plays out.
We didn’t demand from Congress then, who could have imposed a Constitutional solution to what the SC did back in 2000, to right the ship; the Congress could have voted under the Constitution not to certify the 2000 election results, which would have thrown the election to House to vote — we would have likely still ended up with Bush, but it would have been done right.
Then we get this guy and what happens?
9/11.
Iraq War.
Federal incompetence in dealing with a major natural disaster that nearly wiped out an urban American city.
Financial meltdown and the forced bailout of the banks.
The country woke up from all that and decided that we needed a course correction, so we took a chance on this new Senator from Illinois who ran on hope and change.
And we had 8 years of the calm before the storm.
Unfortunately, some people got so in the weeds of politics that they dared to state that he was no different from ‘the other’ — that he didn’t really offer any true difference; some of us thought that we had the luxury of labelling politicians like him a ‘neo-liberal’ — whatever the hell that means.
Some of us thought we had the luxury to compare his potential predecessor as being no different than ‘the other’.
We stayed angry at one another because we didn’t respect the process or the results and while certainly not by any means perfect and clearly flawed, I think that some thought that perhaps if we suffer through ‘the other’, that magically everyone would wake up to see things their way.
Fuck that. Life doesn’t work that way.
You see, the beauty of how our country is SUPPOSED to work is that we compromise — we come up with something that the majority can agree on and we make it work the best for all Americans.
That’s democracy and that shit is dead today.
The Republicans in the Senate have succeeded in pulling off it’s 2017 version of Nixon’s Saturday night massacre — in the wee hours of Saturday, December 2, 2017.
I was listening to Thom Hartmann on Friday afternoon and he said that the passage of this ridiculous money greed bag of a tax bill may in the not so distant future — push us into an economic depression.
DEPRESSION. Let that sink in.
But hell, we may not have to wait for that apocalypse. Trump is somewhere in the White House fuming over Flynn and he still has his stubby little fingers on the nukes.
And he can still fire Mueller.
We are fucking screwed and many still don’t realize that the water in the damn pot has started to bubble.
We have a state that may elect a fucking child molester to the Senate.
A CHILD PREDATOR. Reflect on that.
If that happens, I really don’t want to hear about the Weinsteins, Conyers, Frankens or the whole damn lot of them.
Because something has gone way wrong in this country.
And lastly let me say this. This is way happens when we don’t acknowledge the obvious — Lyndon B. Johnson was right.
There are some Americans in this country who would rather blow up the institution than to fix the institution so that it works for everyone, because some Americans aren’t for everyone -- they think that they are entitled, privileged and better than everyone else and they must retain their position at the top of the heap in order for their lives to be relevant.
I don’t a way out of this now — do any of you think we will last to November 2018? Hell, by the time it comes around, the Kochs and Mercers of this country will have robbed it fucking blind; we will see our national monuments and treasures destroyed by greedy corporations who want to drill on it or fuck the waters up for a profit.
The corporation media might as well be a state propaganda tool — do any of you really trust that they are about journalism? Hell no. They are about profit and they too are a part of the 1% who will benefit from what the GOP state traitors just passed hours ago. They helped this Administration along by being more concerned over ratings than journalistically vetting this guy to tell the rest of the country what NYC already knew about the guy. That’s supposed to be their jobs.
Now they have succeeded in normalizing greed, corruption and the crazy; they have given white supremacist pigs equal time as if their point of view is a just a political platform instead of the domestic criminal terrorists that they are.
Welp, it was nice while it lasted. I feel for the generations behind me — they have no idea what the dying breed has done to their futures yet.
I see no way out or no going back. My best wishes to you all in surviving this.
