I don’t know current music well at all. In fact I tell people that I haven’t recognized anyone on the Grammys for over forty years. That should tell you how old I am, that and the 47 on my site name is actually my vintage. I’m old, but, I was there for the wave of protest music surrounding the Viet Nam war, and I still regard the era as one of the most honest musically that I have lived through. I wasn’t at Woodstock but let me tell you the era was both tumultuous and tantalizing.
In that vein of honest music, I would like to invite anyone on this site to join me in writing some really kick ass protest songs of our own. Songs that make the statements that should be, but aren’t, coming from our news organizations. I’m going to start with an OK little rant about the OIC. (Orangutang In Chief). It doesn’t have a name… it’s only verse but, here goes…
(Resist, J Boyer)
It isn’t right, it isn’t fair
Your need for adulation
While causing such despair
Its quite a shame, your silly game
Of selling empty promises
That never meet their claim..
You never listen, you sit and stare
Your words are empty rhetoric
That only foul the air
Cause, if you cared about children
You wouldn’t break their homes
If you really cared for women
Why claim to not have known
The ones who have come forward
The ones whose lives were torn
Or had their futures threatened
So you could blow your horn?
You’re just full of, alternate facts
you strut and bandy ‘bout
to make the crowd react
meanwhile, the bear is waking
From its cyber-nation
Just in time for breaking
What or founding fathers faired
We’ve been attacked, you don’t care
If you cared about the country
You wouldn’t shut the door
If you care about our health care
Then don’t gut it anymore
If you really are a patriot
Then cut those Russian’s loose
Putin’s just a tyrant
And for that we have no use.
