My daughter is 14 years old. She just started high school this year. One of her best friends is also 14; she goes to school with my daughter and lives in the same development (for the sake of anonymity, we’ll call her “Jane”). Her family used to own the local Chinese restaurant where we often eat. My daughter just told me today that Jane’s mother was deported back to China over the summer and isn’t allowed to return to the U.S. for at least 10 years. Jane was told not to tell anyone about it, but today she broke down and told my daughter.
So now this beautiful teenage girl, just starting high school, at the cusp of womanhood, will be coming of age without her mother. She also has two younger siblings (a brother and sister) that won’t see their mother again until adulthood. Welcome to Trump’s America.
Sorry for the short diary. This is just heartbreaking.
