Remember Trump taking credit for AT&T's bonuses?
“This just came out. … AT&T plans to increase U.S. capital spending $1 billion and provide $1,000 special bonus to more than 200,000 U.S. employees, and that’s because of what we did,” Trump said during remarks at the White House, alongside GOP congressional leaders, after passage of the party's tax legislation.
He added: “That’s pretty good. That’s pretty good.”
Well, buried in the news is that AT&T is simultaneously laying off at least 700 workers:
The telecom giant, whose DirecTV unit makes it the largest pay TV operator in the country, last week pink-slipped more than 700 DirecTV home installers, one laid-off worker told The Post.
Terrible right? But, this is actually an underestimate of the real number of layoffs:
While originally reports indicated 700 layoffs, some AT&T workers indicate to DSLReports.com that this number is being under-reported by as much as half.
"Just in the Southwest region we had 700 legacy AT&T employees get surplussed or laid off," says the worker. "I think reports from all districts put it close to 1400 or so just for the AT&T side."
So, the actual number is probably 1400. Now, let’s combine this with the news that the bonuses were actually negotiated by the union weeks before the tax bill was passed.
AT&T, trying to kiss Trump’s ass as hard as possible for their upcoming merger, claimed that their bonuses were the result of the tax bill. Were the Christmas layoffs part of that too? What a big, beautiful present!
As for little Trump… thanks for the #FakeNews, and so much for the jobs that you said would rain down from the rich people above!
