In brief, my Mom, 83 years old, is a proud lifelong proud liberal Democrat who marched on Selma twice in the 1960’s and also passionately supports Planned Parenthood. She was a Sociology Professor in St. Louis for 37 years and has volunteered in every Democratic Campaign since Adlai Stevenson.
This morning I had to call 911 and go to the emergency room at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis. We thought she had been afflicted with another stroke. After waiting for a few hours she was able to see a doctor thanks to Medicare. The doctor asked her questions such as “where are you”?, what year is it? and “who is the President of the United States?’.
She was able to answer the questions. Regarding the President question, she said “Trump is President and I hate what he is doing to our country.” Then she put her head in her hands and started crying softly. At that point the Doctor said that she was probably allright, and I was able to comfort her. She is very ill and I hope she can go back home but I sure now know that she is still lucid and committed to saving our country. However, under the current Missouri voting rules she will be unable to vote. Getting a new ID must be done in person and it is a huge hassle in Missouri. Literally, her condition is so poor that she can’t go to the DMV and wait around to get an ID. Her last one was expired and she was unable to vote in 2016.
Sometimes it takes a sick, elderly person to express truth!
