If you are on Twitter, you might, hopefully, have become of follower of Rose Marie. She just signed up and immediately gained over a hundred thousand followers. Her tweets were a joy, full of recipes, old show biz memories, pictures of her with….everybody and lots of info about a great new documentary about her called, “Wait for Your Laugh.”
Her career spanned 90 years. At four she was a singing sensation as Baby Rose Marie. She became a nightclub and lounge singer and later was known as “the darling of the airwaves.” She performed the opening night at the Flamingo Hotel for her friend, Bugsy Siegel (like I said, she knew everybody). You probably know her best as Sally Rogers, the comedy writer working with Rob Petrie and Buddy Sorrell, on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” Later she was part of the review, “4 Girls 4” with Rosemary Clooney, Helen O’Connell and Margaret Whiting. She knew everybody and she did everything.
Here is Rose Marie singing as Sally Rogers on “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”
On Twitter I felt like I got to know her. And love her. R.I.P. Rose Marie, you are reunited with your beloved husband, Bobby, now.
