The alt-right is anything but funny. The Southern Poverty Law Center considers them a hate group for their toxic ideology that touts the ridiculous belief that “white identity” is under attack due to the changing demographics in the United States and across Europe. Nothing about hate is amusing—but, sometimes it can be ironic.
Enter the experiences of the women of the alt-right movement. They have strong feelings about the fact that they are the victims of constant misogyny and are not taken seriously among their fellow whites—specifically, men in the movement.
Women in the "alt-right" "are constantly harassed by low level anonymous trolls trying to put us in our place," self-described "Ethno Nationalist" Tara McCarthy wrote on Twitter Sunday, in a moment of revelation that was well-known to basically anyone else. "The ultimate goal seems to be to bully us off the internet."
In a series of tweets, McCarthy was clear that some of the men of the alt-right are anti-woman and that’s just not okay. But, even more importantly, she’s imploring those upstanding feminist men in the movement to speak out on behalf of women’s rights (Insert giggles here).
Men in the Alt Right are going to have to decide whether they will continue to passively/actively endorse this behavior, or speak out against it.
If you want more women speaking publicly about ethno nationalism, I suggest you choose the latter.

Clearly, McCarthy doesn’t realize that most women are trolled and bullied online and there is substantive research to prove it. She isn’t special. But the irony here is that so many of them are bullied by the very same men McCarthy is trying to preserve power for. Poor baby. How sad for her and the other women of the alt-right to realize that their men are not just white supremacists but also rabid misogynists.
Hey Tara, we know you’ve probably never picked up a book that’s worth reading but just so you know: white supremacy and subjugation of women go hand and hand. In fact, one core strategy of the alt-right is to attract men who are already angry, deeply insecure woman haters to also channel their anger into bashing anyone who isn’t white. So it’s not at all a surprise that they are trolling women online. Whether their hate is fueled by misogyny first and race second or vice versa doesn’t matter. The key point remains that they hate anyone who isn’t white, Christian, and male.
McCarthy has since deleted these tweets. Perhaps she was “encouraged” by her brothers in the struggle to do so. Who knows? And frankly, who cares? Women are never responsible for sexism and misogyny. But its hard to feel bad for women that align themselves with such hateful men to begin with, only to be shocked that the hate extends to them too. As the old saying goes, “if you lay down with dogs, you’ll get up with fleas.”
