Hmm, what's in the news, what's in the news?
Oh, Trump's dismantling a national park? Oh, the religious and righteous RNC is swooping in to help elect an Alabama kidf*cker to the Senate? Oh, Republicans are gifting their pals at private equity firms and oil companies at the expense of children's health care and graduate students? Oh, the Supreme Court is rolling with a Texas case that removes domestic benefits from folks in marriages that happen to be same-sex?
Yall sick of this sh*t?
It's easy to sneer and snarl and shout about these goons when you're living in Blue America, ie states that accept the Medicaid expansion they already bought into (I mean *duh*), protect civil rights and voting rights and don't regularly use women's bodies as political football. (Keep up those sneers and snarls and shouts, btw, but make phone calls instead of using Resistbot, many in the GOP aren't accepting faxes anymore)
But for real, here in Texas, it's a nightmare. The power the Republicans wield at the state level has us worst in the developed world for uninsured children and maternal mortality. Our aquifers are suffering from a years of fracking waste abuse and asphalt factories are being built on the cheap next to schools. Families are being torn apart by ICE as refugees are vilified and driven to hide in what should be the Land of the Free. It's f*cking shameful.
National Democrats DGAF. They have their own houses and sex dungeons to sweep clean, and many of the better ones are already positioning and posturing for 2020. Texas Democrats are slowly waking up to that fact, though it's clear some are still waiting on permission to wake up. Other cynical Texas liberals are content to merely fight one another over the table scraps Republicans leave them, happy within their blue bubbles. The silver lining this year is that terrific leaders are stepping up to Fix Texas and Fix it Now, not just to nab the microphone and run for a broader national profile.
We currently have about 120 Democrats filed or ready to file in bids for the 150 seats in the Texas House of Representatives, a curious semi-annual body that pays its members about $8k for the year. As you might imagine, there are lots of wealthy real estate mavens and oil monsters that have that kind of leisure time for such a droll thing as legislating to improve Texans' lives. The filing deadline is December 11, less than a week away, and it is my hope that we can bang the drum and fill as many of these races as possible with unabashed progressive voices.

Texas politics is a rich man's game, so these people need our support ASAP for filing fees and to get their campaigns off on the right (left) foot. Yall want to help punch these smug good ol' boys in the mouth and undo the brutalities of Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick and Jonathan Stickland? Yall sick of this sh*t? Here's a roadmap for fellow Texans, let's get to work.
