Well, this is the crux of the biscuit, the apostrophe isn’t it?
Tips to help your dog lose weight
~first have their thyroid checked and rule out any health reasons for the weight gain.
~ feed them less food. Sounds easy enough right? I swear if someone would measure my food I would be the perfect weight.
~the perfect weight for a dog is when you can’t see their ribs, but you can feel them just by running your fingers ever so lightly down their sides.
~feed a low fat food.
~give carrots as treats instead of dog biscuits.
~use a real measuring cup, not a 24 oz cup from 7-11.
~get an appropriate size bowl for your dog. If it still looks empty when it has the proper amount, get a smaller bowl.
~if your dog is way overweight and needs to lose weight in a hurry, try the “green bean diet”. Use half the amount you should be feeding and substitute canned green beans for the other half. Filling, but not fattening.
~most dogs need an hour of aerobic exercise a day. Not a walk. Heart pounding aerobic exercise. You can split it into two 30 minute sessions. You can jog with your dog, throw balls or Frisbees, ride your bike with your dog running beside. You can skate or skate board with your dog. Throwing a ball down a hill or a set of stairs and having your dog bring it back is a great form of exercise.
~~as lovely as those ideas sound, I’m not doing any of them. Just not my idea of fun. Instead, I take my dog swimming. I don’t swim, he does. And I invite dogs over that he likes to play with. People drop their dogs off on the way to work and pick them up on the way home. It’s a win-win.
~sounds easier just to keep your dog at the right weight to begin with, eh?
This is all off the top of my head and I’ll be at work when this diary comes out. If you have questions about weight loss and dogs (or cats) just leave them in the comments, I’ll answer when I get home. Tracy B Ann
Do not “Troll” the Pootie Peeps Diaries. If you hate animal diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul; these aren’t to everyone’s taste. You are welcome to share photos of your own animals, or ones you just like. If you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks! If you have health/behaviour issues with your pootie or woozle, feel free to bring it to the community. We just may have someone whose experience can help. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If you’re not sure about an issue...please ask. Someone here is always glad to help.
Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. Bringing that stuff in here will be dealt with the same way we deal with trolls. This is NO LINK WEDNESDAY afternoon. Enjoy! (or not as the case may be.)
