DJT is having a very public, very basic, civics lesson while the whole country watches.
Tens of thousands of people who are at this very moment studying for the citizenship exam, people Rcons want to keep out of the country because of their religion, country of origin, or skin color, know more than DJT does about the basics of how the government and the court system work.
You can almost see the gears slowly turning in his head. This job is easy! Just decide what you want to do and have President Bannon draw up a few executive orders! Congress, Schmongress. Courts, Schmorts. Who needs ‘em? A weak guy like Barack Obama just didn’t through his weight around enough. That’s why we need a business man in the Oval Office, an autocratic CEO who knows how to run the US like a family-owned business: what he sez goes and when he sez jump you better be in the air before you ask “how high”.
I swear. Everything DJT has said and done gives the impression that that is what he thought the Presidency was like.
Until yesterday.
Yesterday when the Ninth Circuit panel ruled against him unanimously, including the judge who was appointed by GWB who had asked the toughest questions in the oral argument, DJT figured out for the first time that he might run up against a check or a balance or another branch of government he could not run roughshod over.
One of my very favorite tweets from yesterday (I don’t know how to search Twitter—can anyone give me some tips) was along the lines of “Deplorables who don’t know the difference between your and you’re are acting like they are constitutional law experts”. They despised the last President who in fact *was* a constitutional law expert in part because it bothered them that a black man dared to know the difference between your and you’re, the difference between their and there, and the difference between the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branches of government.
The title of the diary is one of many great resistance sayings that is going around right now. The first three words of the Constitution are “We the People” not “I, the President”.
It is actually possible that DJT does not know this! Or even if he has seen the document, he seems to be brushing its meaning aside. His actions are unreviewable by the courts! He’s above the law! If the president does it, it’s not illegal!
Wait a minute, that quote is from another President. We can only hope for the same result. Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous ass so we can at last unmask him. Oh that’s right, there’s already been all kinds of dirt and the Deplorables ignored it. Dirt before the election, dirt after the election, no wonder he thinks he’s made of Teflon. Wait, that’s another President too. You can’t keep all these corrupt racist Republicon presidents straight without a scorecard.
I can’t get enough of the angry crowds at town halls chanting “You work for us! You work for us! You work for us!” I know I am not alone in wishing there was a way to get that message to DJT directly. He works for us. Ultimately he has to answer to us. His party has both houses of Congress. Right now. But we outnumber them, and no matter how safe they claim to feel based on the 2016 election results, every day there is more great video with another red state congresscritter running scared, hiding from constituents behind locked doors, sneaking away early from meetings through side doors, needing a guard to walk out of the front doors, because the Blue Team is making its voice heard.
If DJT were aware of what he doesn’t know, he’d be embarrassed. But he is blissfully ignorant. So far he has managed to surround himself with a perfect bubble of unreality. Losing the popular vote did not sink in. Millions of people marching did not sunk in. Losing court battles did not sunk in.
Maybe we need to take a positive approach and just offer him teaching tools! Since he isn’t listening to our screaming (yet), let’s help him out by gently introducing him to the information most of us learned in elementary school. The following videos are are good place for him to begin. And if the fifth one is a little bit too advanced for him right now, that’s OK.
Eventually we will make him understand that one too.
not the language I usually use, but it’s the Friday rant so...
