It was one year ago that “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” had its first profile of Rick Morris, a three-term member of the Virginia House of Delegates who was a big supporter of the anti-abortion fanaticism of former Gov. Bob McDonnell and former Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, such as Virginia’s mandatory ultrasound bill, but also a Personhood bill that would have claimed life starts at conception. He cares so much about the human right to life that he also voted for legislation return the electric chair to a list of acceptable means to execute prisoners. He’s also voted against not just gay marriage, but even adoptions by LGBT couples. But while Morris has been without a challenger in an election since taking office in 2011, we thought that might change in 2017 because Morris took to the floor of the Virginia State Legislature to compare abortion to slavery…
“With the 13th amendment to our constitution, slavery in America ended our national sin ended. But every era has its evil, every era has its national sin and the evil of our time is abortion. Our national sin is the murder of our unborn children. And evil is alive. Just as the abolootionists rejected the evil of slavery, I rise to recognize the abolootionists who reject the evil of abortion.? Just as the abolootionists rejected the evil of slavery, I rise to recognize the abolootionists who reject the evil of abortion.“
If that wasn’t enough to make a politician vulnerable going into a time when they’re up for re-election, it seems that Rick Morris was arrested in September of 2016 on 11 separate charges of domestic abuse and child abuse, after he decided to go medieval on his 11 year old stepson with a belt, and trying to force him to stand in a corner for… oh, three days at a clip. (Apparently when children are out of the womb, Morris is open to all sorts of violence done unto them.) While a judge dismissed many of the charges, many could be refiled. A grand jury did indict him on at least one felony child abuse charges last month.
Evidence of a kid covered in welts from corporal punishment seems like a pretty easy case for a prosecutor to win in front of a jury, and it’s an even easier case for any political opponent to topple Rick Morris out of his seat in the Virginia legislature. And that’s what it’s going to take, because even among calls from many Democrats and even most Republican colleagues, Morris is not resigning.
We’ll just do him a favor and spread his tale as far and wide as we can so the choice is taken out of his hands. Because, y'know, f*** that child-beating monster.
