Activist, comedian, and actress Sarah Silverman caused great unrest among conservatives late Wednesday night after she tweeted this message to her 9.8 million followers on Twitter:
'Wake up & join the Resistance. Once the military is w us Fascists get overthrown. Mad king & his handlers go bye bye.”
Within her tweet Silverman included a meme by Jeff Mueller who lists the extreme Trump and Republican actions that took place on Wednesday — in just one day and before the day was even done, he says:
Here is Silverman’s tweet:
The tweet followed protests that took place Wednesday night against far-right, racist, sexist, xenophobic Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos who was due to speak at UC Berkeley. He had to cancel his speech. To give an example of the kind conservative comments swimming on social media right now, here is a quote rom Victor Morton from the right wing Washington Times (never to be confused with the legitimate Washington Post)
“In a screaming all-capital-letters tweet exhorted her almost 10 million followers to “wake up & join the resistance,” a term from World War II that anti-Trump rioters have used to define themselves.
She then outlined her preferred scenario for the violent overthrow of the legitimately elected government, still in all capital letters.”
So many things are wrong with that quote, that there is not need to add commentary or post a link. It’s there and I’m not going to give their site more clicks/views. Nor will I bother to add more conservative quotes, because we all can imagine what’s being said and know where to find it. I will relay that the Predator in Chief did threaten to cut UC Berkeley’s federal funding, rather than express any concern as to why the students there and the millions around the world have been protesting. And if Trump tries to cut funds, he would undoubtedly create more outrage and cause more protests. Here is his threat.
“If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people what a different point of view — NO FEDERAL FUNDS?”
It’s all about power, money and propaganda. This is how Trump rolls and manipulates the minds of his minions. He twists things around. He says, “U.C. Berekely does not allow free speech.” Of course they allow free speech, or they would not be allowed to function. The anti-Trump protestors are saying U.C. Berkeley does not want hate speakers.
Trump doesn’t bother to tweet out about the hundreds, perhaps thousands of non-violent protests that have taken place around the world against him since he’s taken office. And he doesn’t bother to mention how he provoked and promoted violence against anti-Trump protestors (with a different point of view) at his own campaign rallies as seen here:
As Dan Rather stated several weeks ago, “These are not normal times.” Here is an excerpt.
These are not normal times. These are extraordinary times. And extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.
When you have a spokesperson for the president of the United States wrap up a lie in the Orwellian phrase "alternative facts”…
When you have a press secretary in his first appearance before the White House reporters threaten, bully, lie, and then walk out of the briefing room without the cajones to answer a single question…
When you have a President stand before the stars of the fallen CIA agents and boast about the size of his crowds (lies) and how great his authoritarian inaugural speech was….
These are not normal times.
The press has never seen anything like this before. The public has never seen anything like this before. And the political leaders of both parties have never seen anything like this before.
It’s more than brave of Sarah Silverman, a vocal supporter of both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, and a strong activist on many social issues, to tweet out this message knowing that it could very well garner her an FBI investigation, or cause Trump to try and silence her. I don’t see her asking for violence, I see her asking for more resistance during an incredibly dangerous time in our history. When I read “go bye bye” I see her meaning when Trump is impeached and his thugs go down with him. Echoing Dan Rather, who says these are not normal, most would add, Trump is not a normal president. And millions believe it was not a legitimate election. I hope Americans stand behind Silverman, as well as retweet, if they agree. Regardless of what you think of her, she has always been fearless and outspoken and doesn’t seem to give two flips when people don’t agree with her. That alone is rare and refreshing.
People are scared and there is a general feeling of great urgency in wanting to stop the madness in this country that continues daily ever since Donald Bannon-Trump took office. The unrest is evidenced by the number of protests and protestors who seek non-violent ways to get their their voices heard, but we can be sure the right wing extremists will plant provocateurs into the protest crowds to start violence, so Bannonites can make all protestors look like terrorists via his media machine. Thank you to Sarah Silverman standing up and speaking your truth and the truth of many — loudly and unabashedly. March on, girlfriend. Peace.
For those who might be interested, I’m including an anonymous community poll to see how Daily Kos readers are feeling about Silverman’s tweet. If you’re not a member of the Daily Kos community, please join so you can add you voice to the comments. If you’re a right-wing conservative, don’t bother — you won’t last long. It just is.
