FWIW…
At this moment in time, Dems have no actual legislative or executive leverage (and soon to be judicial) to stop the GOP. That’s a cold, hard simple fact.
The absolute best case scenario is that Dems get energized to vote for federal level Dems in 2018, and to mobilize at the grassroots for local, county, and state seats. That process has already started to a degree. As progressives, we can make all of the noise that we want as an adjunct to the process, and to the extent the noise will be helpful in 2018, volume and frequency are both good things.
Between now and then, though, we’re going to get steamrolled.
A lot of people are going to be hurt. Presuming Twitl3r (or Pence) remains in office until at least January 2021, there’s really no mechanism to prevent that hurt. It’s gonna be painful. America is going to get its collective ass kicked. It’s only a matter time and a question of how severe the pain might be. We will be counting bodies before this nightmare ends.
Accept that prognosis, while at the same time lifting your intentions, to whatever higher power you might believe in, that basic institutions can be held together so that those institutions are able to be reclaimed and rebuilt when the time comes. Be resolute in the belief that the time will come.
I only wish I had better news in the present tense.
