With his appearance at CPAC today, President Bannon has decided that he no longer has to keep a low profile.
KAC can make glib jokes about CPAC turning into TPAC, but anyone who watched and listened realized it was BPAC. Not TPAC Trump-PAC. B-PAC. Bannon-PAC.
The Breitbart firebrand, so recently on the outside looking in, is now sitting in the catbird seat. He gives every indication that he is in control of everything now, and smarmily gloating about it.
Bannon is the head of the Republican Party. He is the one whose appearance is able to reassure the RWNJ base that the vile policies they voted for will in fact be enacted. He is the one behind the executive orders that they called tyranny when the black guy was in the Oval Office but are thrilled about now that DJT is signing them.
Bannon is the White House Chief of Staff. Reince Priebus (affectionately known without his vowels as RNC PR BS) appeared so small and insignificant sitting next to Bannon, looking like he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him. He could barely get the words out as he mouthed scripted praise and claims of friendship with a man who wanted his job, wanted his title, and is acting like he has his job and title anyway. Seriously, does anyone doubt that Bannon is the White House “official” who tried to quash the FBI report about Russia? Nothing about a move like that fits the low-key style of RNC PR BS. He is a figurehead—a Chief of Staff more palatable to the outside world. But Bannon pulls the puppet strings.
It remains to be seen whether Bannon is in control of the National Security Council. OK, his pal Flynn is gone, but DJT was unable to get the replacement he wanted for Flynn because Harward wanted control of his own staff, and DJT was unwilling to part with Bannon’s handpicked minions. What will McMaster do? He accepted the job, which already makes him look like he is willing to put up with the status quo. How soon will they butt heads, and over which problem area in the world?
Fortunately for the Blue Team, the portrait in Bannon’s attic is smooth faced and charming while he proudly wears his evil on his face so we know exactly who and what we are dealing with.
And ultimately, the thing he thinks is the great strength that swept him into power will also be his undoing.
Yes he is an outsider. But because he is an outsider, he does not actually know how Washington works.
He thinks he has a victory because he beat HRC and his man is in the White House. He thinks he beat the Democrats even though we outnumber them, because he got a bunch of people to believe a fake story about millions of illegal voters, supposedly cancelling out our popular vote victory.
But now Bannon has to beat the Rcon establishment at their own game, the Washington insider game.
And he has no tools with which to do it.
He has no money to spread around, he does not know where the bodies are buried, he has no favors to call in, and slowly it will dawn on him that you can’t alienate people and then get what you want from them.
When he finally realizes he can’t rule by executive order, the fall will be hard and fast and it will be fun to watch him flailing about in the shallow surf.
When he overreaches, as men like him always do eventually, I predict that the machete that comes out to chop his arm off will not be in the hand of a Democrat. Bannon practically admitted he only wanted to be in charge of government so he could destroy it from within, with cabinet picks who either despise the function of their departments, are incompetent to run their departments, or openly wish to eliminate their departments.
Ultimately that is why the Red Team will take him down themselves, because he is threatening to disrupt their good thing and end their gravy train just as they are about to achieve everything they ever wanted. Rcon leadership put up with him to get back the White House, and to get DJT to sign the vile granny-starving legislation of their dreams, but they will not put up with someone like Bannon who wants to tear down the whole system of power that has served them so well.
And because Bannon is the type that never bothered with knowing what is in the Constitution, he is probably not aware that as soon as R leadership decides they are done with DJT they are done. They have plenty of grounds to get him out of office whenever they decide to flex their muscles.
Bannon and his ilk can’t fight a four front war: the press, the courts, the Democrats AND the Republicans. They just can’t. That’s why their days are already numbered. That’s why they always will be on the outside looking in: fringe elements who are never fully accepted by the powers that be, who can be slapped off their pedestal and thrown head first into a political abyss as soon as the big boys get tired of them.
