You know it’s coming. There will be whining. It will be loud, repetitive and persistent. They’ll claim they’re just objectively reporting the whining of out-of-touch librul snowflakes. They’ll decry the fact that entertainers can’t just shut up and entertain, liked they’re well paid to do. That’s the framing. The Blaze even has a website for the first annual Snowflake Awards which I won’t link to.
But the reality is no one whines or claims victimhood more than Republicans. Almost every Trump tweet is an assertion of victimhood. Poor snowflake. So mistreated. So downtrodden. They’ve effectively framed liberals as whining through incessant repetition. We need to push back. Hard. We need to flip the script. And we need to do it even on something as seemingly insignificant as just who the “snowflakes” are in the great Oscar debate.
What are the Oscars? It’s not a concert. It’s not a play. While some may find it entertaining, it wasn’t created for that purpose. Simply put, it’s annual gathering of a private professional association— the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences— to honor and celebrate the members’ profession and recognize outstanding accomplishments. At its core, it is no different that similar events held annually by a number of professions. Because many of the public finds their profession entertaining, networks want to broadcast it. Since it is broadcasted, we can all eavesdrop on this private association’s event if we choose. But it’s their event. They decide what’s okay to say at their event. If what they say offends you, who is the snowflake?
