Rainy days get you down or up?
In the middle of a three-mile hike it started raining on me yesterday. Luckily I was just wearing a T-shirt so I didn’t have to worry about any jacket or overcoat getting wet. When I finally got home drenched to the bone at least I didn’t have to hang up a jacket to dry. So there’s that.
Always have to look on the bright side.
Yesterday when I woke up the sun was already high in the sky. Seems like I hadn’t seen it for weeks. It was actually warm outside. I took my morning coffee with me and headed up to Wildcat Canyon. No one murdered me on the way there.
Obviously then it was going to be a good day.
A few hours later I was back home and soggy like forgotten noodles left for a day or two soaking on top of the stove. No problem. It was my day off and I had plenty of time to dry off and get snug under the covers. Then, and only then, I remembered I had promised to help a friend get her dead car out of the street in front of her house. I put on a dry jacket (all my jackets were dry-as opposed to me) and drove twenty minutes over to her house.
After all, who wants to do nothing on their day off?
Two hours later, and some ten or twenty pleading and Byzantine texts from her later, I was still parked in front of her house, behind her dead car, waiting for her to come home. I sent her a text saying I had to bail.
After all, who wants to do something on their day off?
I got home and couldn’t get into my house. The key fit the door, but the “new” door apparently had decided it wasn’t going to open. I held my arms out, palms up, looked up at the sky and asked,
“When do I get to start doing this stuff to YOU?”
The invisible crazy old woman or man in the sky that toys with us mortals didn’t answer. Probably just as well. In a universe where a blithering idiot is president how can I expect any help from the supernatural?
One day Trump won’t be president any longer. The sun will come out and stay out. My friend will be able to move her own damn dead car. My own front door will do something other than give me the finger. Until then, I’m just…
Singing in the rain.
