Usernames, so creative and sometimes perplexing. When I signed up here almost 13 years ago, in March of 2004, one of the many delightful surprises was an abundance of cleverly worded usernames. (Mine wasn’t one of them, just my maiden name.)
In those days, lots of new users signed up each day. It was a smaller site then, and one of my favorite things to do was try to make sense of the different usernames. I was too new and too shy to just ask, but a few of my favorites over the years are:
Tonight, if you’d like to share your username and its meaning, that would be awesome. It’s my first time here at Top Comments. Thank you for reading and participating in this community diary.
TOP COMMENTS
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
Note: Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig.

In a miserably bad diary, raptavio hit the proverbial nail on the head with this righteously outraged comment!
From NWTerriD:
Disturbing but insightful message from SottoVoce about the state of our union.
From BMScott:
snud had a wonderfully snarky response to the diary NPR : Betsy DeVos Cites Fake Graduation Rate Numbers To Justify "Virtual" Charter Schools! posted by Troutfishing. Fortunately, I had set down my coffee before I read it.

I am submitting this comment by GoGirl45 because I found it uplifting to read how Daily Kos can help a committed progressive in these trying times.
Then there is this comment from first-time Daily Kos commenter, 9XArya, about a Stephen King novel and making the fight against Drumpf.
Finally, this comment (also from a first-time commenter on Daily Kos) by WillowTCollie, inspired me because it comes from a young person just out of high school, with ideas and energy for helping with the big fights facing us!
Highlighted by wacksypoetic:
Is this comment by CPT Doom on health insurance, ‘competition’ and health CARE.
From Salish:
On the thread "A US senator reveals calls to to the US Capitol switchboard " by Jen Hayden there is a comment by Bule Betawi. She mentions something called the 3.5% rule (w/o explaining) and has a link that doesn't sound germane. However, I clicked it and read the article, which is a TedX Boulder talk she gave. Then I posted my own comment below hers explaining why her post is very important.
The 3.5% is from her PhD work analyzing how many activists it takes to effect regime change. I added up the numbers we have (so far) and we are close to 1/2 already. Something everyone left of center needs to hear. Keeps the morale up. (Ed. note: Please read! I added the link to the TEDx talk.)
Top Mojo ala mik!
For Friday, February 3, 2017, first comments and tip jars excluded. Thank you mik for the mojo magic! For those of you interested in How Top Mojo Works, please see his diary on the subject.
