It occurs to me that the press has become lazy and I’m tired.
Just about any scandal that has come along since 1972 has had the suffix -gate added to it. Irangate, Nannygate, Deflategate, etc.
Time and past time for everyone, especially the press, to move on and find something else to use. It’s been overused so much that it’s lost its punch and is past its expiration date.
It’s also misleading and implies that the situation is more serious than it is...to the point it’s downright silly.
Press and others, find something else besides tacking -gate to the end of any scandal.
