It’s a new set of Meetup groups. Someone may well already have diaried it, but my search did not find it. The group names are all #Resist: (town name here)
In two days, there are almost a thousand of them.
There is a peculiarity, which must originate from Meetup. In most meetup groups, there are a large stack of members, and a small number of Organizers and the like. Event Organizers and the like. Only organizers can call an actual Meetup event.
In #Resist meetups, everyone is an event organizer and can call a meetup. This is not the normal state of affairs in meetups. If you discover something interesting is happening, you do not need to wait. You can act immediately.

“Resistance Protests Fading Away? Nope, just getting started.”
What you see at Meetup is an enormously effective political organizing tool that has been given a boost up by a Meetup rules innovation.
