As angry and fearful we become over what’s going on in our country, we have to remember to laugh. It’s the only way to survive the months and years ahead. Many of us do that by watching late night comedy shows here in the U.S. But, all around the world there are late night comedy shows in other countries, and they are banding together:
From now on, we're going to ridicule the orange shit out of the President of the United States and his fucking phony administration together, like collectively. And we'll "only stop once everyone has laughed just about enough. — Jan Böhmermann
Follow me below the fold to find out how this happened.
You probably saw the Dutch video addressed to Trump that went viral last week. This morning I saw this post on my Facebook feed:
A Dutch answer to The Daily Show kicked off the trend, in which various nations farcically campaign to come second to America. Now Morocco and Luxembourg are getting in on the fun.
Even More Countries Mock Trump with Wickedly Funny Parody Videos
I clicked to watch the additional videos. First, I watched the video from Switzerland, which was just under four minutes long. The next video was from Germany, and the first thing I noticed was that it was over 12 minutes long, and was weary about watching it because I needed to get busy working on other things. However, my curiosity compelled me to watch the entire video to find out why. I am so glad I did. It starts with an introduction of Germany’s video by Jan Böhmermann. After the video, Böhmermann reappears to explain how comedy shows from several European countries had been in touch with each other and coordinated efforts to create “We’re Second” videos for their country.
Then Böhmermann goes on to list countries they would like to get touch with to join the collaboration. Böhmermann further explains that the effort to mock Trump will continue …
And Mr. President Bannon ... um, Mr. President Trump ... listen to me, when the whole world is standing up to make fun of you, you've really achieved something truly great ... it's totally, truly great.
Finally, Böhmermann warns the lawyers at his network to get ready because this is going to be the "nuclear version." Evidently, he’s been sued before for making fun of another head of state. Here’s the video from Germany.
As each country adds it will be added to the website, Every Second Counts: Who wants to be Second?
Trump expects that by the mere fact that he is president, he will be adored, admired and respected. Trump is about to learn the hard way that admiration and respect is earned. When the entire world is mocking you, they don’t admire or respect you.
