Received this e-mail today from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee:
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) has been killing it in the confirmation hearings of Trump Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
Tuesday, Whitehouse read a litany of cases such as Citizens United where the Republican Supreme Court majority has issued rulings that "benefitted Republicans at the polls, and big business everywhere."
Yesterday, Senator Whitehouse hammered Gorsuch on "dark money" in politics. The video is going viral because it shows the backbone the public is yearning for from Democrats.
Watch the video. Then, can you chip in $3 to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse's re-election in 2018? Whitehouse won his Senate seat in a big upset election against a Republican -- you can bet he won't be getting dark-money support after today.
Whitehouse's grilling of Gorsuch over Supreme Court campaign finance rulings created one of the most dramatic moments of the hearing so far.
After recounting how a "dark-money group" that spent $7 million to prevent Obama nominee Merrick Garland from getting a Senate hearing is now spending $10 million to get Gorsuch confirmed, Whitehouse asked Gorsuch what that group sees in him that's worth $17 million.
Gorsuch tried to deflect the question, saying, "You'd have to ask them."
And then Whitehouse put the nail in the dark-money coffin, replying, "I can't -- because I don't know who they are. It's just a front group."
Based on polling PCCC members chipped in to conduct, we've been pushing Democrats in red states like North Dakota and West Virginia to oppose Gorsuch on economic populist grounds. Sheldon Whitehouse is showing how it's done.
Watch the video. Then, can you chip in $3 to Senator Whitehouse's 2018 re-election campaign -- because he won't be getting dark-money support. Not after today.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
