I hope everybody understands that even if every allegation of corruption in the election of 2016 proves to be the gospel truth, there is no going backwards in the United States of America. We cannot simply press the reset button, put the Obama’s back in the White House, re-instate the 114th Congress and call a “do-over” election. There is a clear order of succession established by the 25th amendment, and there is nothing in that path that will put anyone who is not a Republican in the White House.
If crooked donnie is impeached, and Mike Pence is found to be complicit, and he’s impeached as well, next in line is the Speaker of the House, i. e., Paul Ryan (shudder!) If it’s somehow also determined that Ryan had guilty foreknowledge of all this, and he is, miraculously, also deemed unfit to serve, and removed from office, the next man in line would be the President pro-tempore of the Senate, an office occupied since January of 2015 by Utah’s senior Senator, Orrin Hatch. Hatch’s seat was not up for election in 2016, so it’ll be tough to find a way to taint him with this particular fiasco.
Not that I find this prospect comforting, mind you. But I’ve noted that mentioning this in conversations with Republo/Conservo/Libertarians (“See? It’s NOT just a ploy to put another Democrat back in the WH!”) can help to cross the partisan divide, at least for a moment, so I thought it was worth pointing out here.
