A coincidental tag along to what I'm going to say comes in the way of Dan Rather's review for this book. People associate Impeachment with removal from office as a result of Nixon but we learned that isn't a necessary outcome from Bill Clinton's impeachment. What we tend to forget is that Nixon resigned, feeling removal was imminent, and that is why he left office.
In the age of our Oligarch-Presidency and GOP governance we are hearing liberals call, again, for impeachment. That's fine but they then go on to express desire to remove our Oligarch from The Oval Office and I don't believe that's our best strategy. If removed then VP Pence, or Speaker Ryan (should Pence be removed on grounds of an illegal election), becomes our new President. Pence is the scarier of the two because he has demonstrated an effectiveness at achieving his goals. He is a politician and understands the game. Ryan, in my opinion, has a lot to learn as Speaker but I suspect he will. If either were to take over the WH they would have a good deal of success as a result of being politically adept.
Our Oligarch is not showing many signs of being adept at anything beyond getting his fans excited. His wall seems likely to fail in Congress just as badly as the ACHA or his Imperial Presidency EO did in court. What's more, since there is a great deal in common with Nixon, he's likely to go on being a failure.
That's sad for the States Of America (SOA) but there's no remedy for the sad we now face. Removing The Oligarch from behind The Resolute won't stop the sad. In fact, it will increase the sad because Pence and Ryan, in that order, are both better at getting what they want--which is a Christian Taliban rule.
What Impeachment would do for us is weaken an already weak Oligarch. He'd be castrated and set out to pasture, watched over closely by our IC (which suspects he might pass secrets to Putin), thereby becoming little more than a figurehead and warning to history: Don't let this happen to your generation.
I would personally rather have an ineffective Oligarch in the WH than an effective Theocracy. That is why I submit that we stop pressing for the removal of Goldfinger. I think that would also gain greater support from the moderate GOP Rep’s. Yes, “he's quite mad” but so was King George and England survived (albeit not as an Empire). Empire is over-rated, anyway.
