Big news today from the Wall Street Journal: Michael Flynn has offered to testify to the FBI and the congressional intelligence committees in exchange for immunity.
My first thought is that you don’t ask for immunity if no illegal acts occurred.
Josh Marshall’s first take at TalkingPointsMemo is that you don’t get immunity unless you can deliver the goods on someone higher up the food chain, and this particular food web really only has one link higher.
I can hear Sean Spicer now: “Michael Flynn had only a minor role in the campaign and the administration and was only in the White House for three weeks before he moved on to spend more time with his family”
And of course Kellyanne Conway: “Donald Trump does not even really know Michael Flynn. They were only in the same room a couple times ever and they never talked.”
And Devin Nunes: “My sources in the White House tell me that Donald Trump talked more with the Russian Ambassador than he did with this Michael Flynn.”
Things are going to get a lot more interesting.
