Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (D. IN):
From the beginning, I’ve been deeply concerned by reports that members of the Trump administration have had repeated and suspicious contact with Russian officials.
Now there are reports that Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with the Russian ambassador twice while serving as a surrogate for the Trump campaign. Not only that, but he made no mention of these meetings during his confirmation hearings -- even when asked directly.
Last Thursday, Attorney General Sessions recused himself from the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian meddling in our elections, and I was happy to see Congressional leaders of both parties make deliberate statements about the importance of this investigation’s independence.
But I am disturbed that, when asked by the press, many Republicans have been completely silent on Sessions’ misrepresentation. They’re putting their party above our national interests and that’s just unacceptable.
Will you join me in calling on these Republicans to speak out and get to the bottom of how Congress and the American people were misled?
In December, I joined several of my Senate colleagues in calling for a comprehensive bipartisan investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The American people deserve to know the extent of Russia’s involvement in our democratic process, including any connections between Russia and Trump surrogates and affiliates.
And they deserve not to be misled by our nation’s top law enforcement official. This seems pretty clear. And yet, many Republicans have said nothing -- choosing, instead, to put party politics ahead of the interests and safety of Hoosiers.
Add your name to my petition calling on Republicans to speak out on our Attorney General misleading Congress and the American people.
Thank you,
Joe
