In the beginning there was … the Watergate Scandal Timeline.
Because of those scandalous events at the highest levels of our democracy, Congress in its “wisdom” saw fit to enact a law to empanel and empower an Independent Special Prosecutor, whenever such circumstances demand it.
That was then, and this is now — a time when Congress seat-holders aren’t nearly as “wise” as they once were. Not as courageous either.
But thank goodness for Wikipedia … and thank all the users that generously support them. Thank Wikipedia for documenting the frequent “need” for enacting this important Ethics Law ...
In 1978, a Democratic Party-majority Congress was determined to curb the powers of the President and other senior executive branch officials due in part to the Watergate scandal and related events such as the Saturday Night Massacre. They drafted and passed the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, creating a special prosecutor (later changed to Independent Counsel) position, which could be used by Congress or the Attorney General to investigate individuals holding or formerly holding certain high positions in the federal government and in national Presidential election campaign organizations.

Now I ask you, which of these Independent Investigations was more “foundationally” serious, in terms of its impacts against our Constitutional and People-driven form of government, than the “controversy” that surrounds our current President, and the possibly collusion of his Campaign with a foreign Power, to interfere with “social engineer” our Election-Newscycle process?
If an Independent Counsel can investigate “Travelgate”, then they can sure as hell investigate this.
“… The people need to know their president is not a crook!”
