I’ve been having a running discussion with someone close to me about the meaning and cause of this election, whether the guy in the image above has any clue what’s going on, and whether there is some sort of reasonable ideology behind the actions of the GOP. He has insisted that the GOP “only” obstructed for 7 years because Obama shoved the ACA down their throats, and that having Turdboy and his cronies in the White House and Cabinet could be a good thing — you know, why not have someone who has never been in government come in and shake stuff up?
But over the past few weeks (yes, it’s been only a few weeks) it’s all become clear. Given the run of the place, did the GOP rush to alleviate the suffering of small businesses overburdened with regulations? Or to help people who they want to protect from the “slavery” of the ACA? To create jobs?
No. They rushed in to ensure that mentally ill people won’t be hindered when they buy guns, and big oil won’t be hindered when their activities poison our water, banks won’t be hindered in charging us excessive fees, and hunters won’t be hindered in littering the land with lead. They rushed in to make sure the rich aren’t helping to pay for health care, that insurance CEO’s can get rich(er) again, and to make sure no government website mentions climate change as a “thing”. They rushed in to remove protections for endangered species. Now which of their rich cronies does that even help?
Okay, so now they’ve laid a turd of epic proportions. The World’s Greatest Health Care Act of 2017. Seriously? Yes, they are serious. It’s got to be one of the worst pieces of legislation ever foisted upon this nation. It lays bare their corruption, lack of compassion, arrogance, and avarice. It shows us once and for all that their loyalties lie with the “Haves”, and the rest of us can go to hell (and broke) by way of lack of access to affordable health care.
Hey, everyone who isn’t a rich CEO: they don’t care about you.
This giant stinking bill does nothing to make health care affordable or accessible. It says “Those who can afford to be well, will be well. Those losers who can’t afford to be well, will get sick and will die.” Oh and “If you’re already near senior, why don’t you just die already, geez.”
Yeah, kinda flushes the whole “shake up the government, run it like a business, republicans are simply reasonable states’ rights advocates, Obamacare mandate = slavery” thing right down, doesn’t it?
We’ve been applauding the press, and some Democrats, for calling out the Russia thing, and the “he’s crazy” thing, and the “chaos in the White House” thing. But where they’ve failed is in calling out the destruction of our way of life, our health and safety, our economic security — the unfolding tragedy of the daily legislative and regulatory changes brought to us by an unfettered GOP.
They’ve all been awful. This one is a travesty. The Democrats should be buying air time for ads telling people what this bill will do to them. We need to make the republicans own this one. Voters need to understand who they’ve brought in to run things.
