Republicans are getting desperate as they watch Jon Ossoff’s campaign build strength. With the special election for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District coming up on April 18, a radio station had to edit a lie out of an NRA ad attacking Ossoff:
CNN's KFile flagged the NRA Political Victory fund ad on Thursday for incorrectly stating that Ossoff "grew up in Washington, DC."
Ossoff grew up in Georgia's 6th congressional district, where he is running to fill the seat vacated by Tom Price, who is now President Donald Trump's secretary of Health and Human Services. Ossoff attended college in Washington D.C. and worked on the staff of Rep. Hank Johnson.
Lots of attack ads make claims that carefully skirt the truth, coming just close enough that you can’t quite call them lies. But saying Ossoff grew up hundreds of miles from where he actually grew up—in the district he’s now running in—isn’t a judgment call or a point that can be argued according to how you see politics. It’s just a lie.
Why are Republicans so scared? Maybe because of this:
“The atmosphere in Georgia is electric right now,” Ossoff said in a short interview at his parents’ home. “Thousands of folks, many of whom have never been engaged in politics before, working together to make the statement that we think the country can only become stronger and more prosperous and more secure if we stick to our core values.”
But while the NRA’s radio ad has been edited so it doesn’t lie anymore, Ossoff still faces millions of dollars in Republican attacks—he’ll need all the help he can get.
Can you chip in $3 to help Jon Ossoff fight back against the NRA’s lies?
