An under-noticed story that went along with Ossoff’s near-victory Tuesday was the success of a Democrat in taking the top spot in the Georgia Senate 32nd district. Judson Hill had vacated the seat in order to take a run at the 6th.
The numbers here are quite different than with the Ossoff campaign:
Christine triebsch (D) |
14,168 |
24% |
kay kirkpatrick (r) |
12,354 |
21% |
Roy Daniels (R) |
8,904 |
15% |
Gus Makris (R) |
5,963 |
10% |
matt campbell (R) |
5,850 |
10% |
bob wiskind (D) |
5,083 |
9% |
Exton Howard (D) |
4,050 |
7% |
Hamilton Beck (R) |
2,165 |
4% |
The Democratic total here is 37% and it looks like there were a bit shy of 60k voters. So it’s not just a final push to get her over the line. However, something else worth noting in the voter strength maps from the New York Times:
Now of course that doesn’t mean that Cobb County is suddenly a Democratic bastion. But it does show that Handel was NOT the preferred candidate in that area. In fact, some folks may just stay home there. It might also be a place to try and squeeze out some people on the fence by building up a potential strong surrogate for Jon in that corner of the district.
For some crazy reason, the runoff for SD-32 will be May 16, not the June 20 date for the Congressional district. That’s a month less time than is available for Jon. But then again, it also means there’s some time to do some local focusing. And there’s definitely a LOT less money than $8 million currently in play.
Anyways, this is a short one since I have to go in for work, but have a look here and think about raising the profile here in the same way the 6th has been raised. I think if you look at the issues section, you’ll be pleased.
