A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, say anything, it will be well received.
I just caught a clip on MSNBC of President Obama speaking at an event in Chicago on Monday. He’s back, Baby! 😊🇺🇸😊🇺🇸😊🇺🇸
He said, and I’m paraphrasing a bit, “The single most important thing I can do right now is to help pass the baton to our future leaders."
That got me thinking a couple of things. First, that is a great question we should always be asking ourselves as we fight the Trump regime:
What is the single most important thing I can do right now?
For some, that could mean "what cause do I care the most about?” But it is kind of more than that. It suggests, “considering the skills and experience I have, what’s the one thing I could do to affect the most change?” So to me, I guess, it’s more like a war effort. And FSM knows, these times certainly call for one.
Second, I think Obama is being modest here. Yes, he is helping to pass the baton. But he is also using his voice as a popular ex-President to try to save the mother-effing planet from Putin and the Russians! Here was Obama a couple of days ago, calling French Presidential candidate Macron to show his support:
Obama is beloved in France, so much so that there was a movement to get HIM to run there. (see poster image above)
Macron wound up narrowly beating the fascist, Putin-backed LePen, though both will now face a run-off.
If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend joining Obama's OFA Connect website— it is a powerful resistance tool. (I wrote about it in January: www.dailykos.com/...)
What about you? What’s the single most important thing you can do right now?
Our team is here to provide support and guidance to new and existing volunteer leaders of each regional and state group, helping them with recruiting, organizing and executing social and action events. We invite you to join in this effort to build our community. There are many ways to pitch in. If there isn't a group to join near you, please start one.
