Republicans in the senate just voted to change the rules that have upheld our democratic process for 200 years simply for the sake of confirming a nominee to the Supreme Court who was unable to earn enough support to meet the erstwhile 60-vote requirement.
We are wondering . . . how does this deviation from a long-held tradition in the senate improve the quality of life for Americans or was that even a consideration?
It is clear that what mattered most to Republican senators was the political payoff they hope to receive by advancing the dangerous agenda of the current president who’s devoted the first seventy-some days of his presidency to misleading the American people, falsely accusing his predecessor of committing a felony, insulting long-time allies, blaming anyone and everyone for his many failures, blatantly turning his back on millions of good folks who voted for him, and in general doing his best to destabilize our democracy.
It unfortunately didn’t matter to Republican senators that nearly seventy percent of Americans opposed their vote for the so-called ‘Nuclear Option’ just as they didn’t give a hoot about the concerns of millions who signed petitions to block the Gorsuch nomination or the millions who made phone calls, and sent letters, Emails, and FAX messages to every Republican senator from every state in the union to express their opposition to the Gorsuch nomination.
That Republican senators care so little about the concerns of millions of Americans who employ them in good faith to protect and serve the public interest is something voters will not forget in 2018 or 2020.
Republicans in the United States Senate and voters across all party lines will certainly understand the reason behind that form of nuclear fallout, won’t they?
