There’s an election in 4 days which will decide 2 of the 7 seats on the school board of the Los Angeles Unified School District. This election has major national consequences for the future of education, labor, the Democratic Party, and democracy.
Each race is head-to-head between candidates supported by opposite camps in the war on public education in America exemplified by Betsy DeVos. On one side are candidates endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Our Revolution, and the UTLA teacher’s union. On the other side are “charter-school-advocates” funded by billionaires who hate public schools (both as bastions of labor, and as undeserved largesse to the students and a missed profit opportunity). Several of the more prominent billionaires in this effort are major Democratic Party donors, and all the candidates are ostensibly Democrats.

Where is the national outrage over this fifth column in our party? Do we not support workers rights? Do we not support education for all?
You can help Steve Zimmer and Imelda Padilla win a victory for real Democrats, for education, and for Labor on Tuesday. This election will be determined by turnout. Phonebank or canvass for the candidates, please! Remote phonebanking is possible for non-locals. We already lost one seat to the plutocrats in March. Let's make sure these two don't go the same way.
