The talking points are flying all over Right Blogistan.
They are so proud of their President* no matter what he does.
Not like that awful Obama who embarrassed them all the time and embarrassed the United States and debased himself by bowing to foreign leaders.
The reason DJT made his little bob and bounce was to prove that he does not BOW to anyone.
Therefore, instead of a dignified, manly bow, he did this (h/t dmhlt 66):
It is weird enough that he bends his knee instead of simply bowing or nodding his head.
And it is the little bob AFTER the medal is placed on his head that is causing all the kerfuffle.
It looks like a curtsy.
First of all: Men do not curtsy.
Whether DJT intended to curtsy or not is irrelevant at this point. The little after-bob looks like a curtsy, including the position of his feet and knees.
Men do not curtsy. This goes double for men who insist that everyone around him must strictly conform to traditional gender roles.
His hyper-masculine supporters would have mocked this gesture if it had been done by almost any other man in the world. We can all imagine the language they would have used in feminizing the moment.
Second: it is inelegant, undignified behavior.
Either he was not briefed, or he ignored the briefing, or he forgot the briefing.
The latter two being the most likely.
It also indicates that the President of the United States does not know how to act appropriately in formal situations.
Third: it makes him look like an oaf.
Uncultured. Unsophisticated.
Not at ease around royalty, class, people of substance, or wealth, in spite of all the gold-plated crap he surrounds himself with.
Well at least that one is accurate.
Fourth: he and his ilk made such a big deal out of Obama bowing.
The RWNJs freaked the F out when Obama bowed according to proper protocol in various diplomatic situations.
But they have had almost nothing to say about this curtsy/bob/double bounce/whatever it was from DJT, even though it is a much more subservient gesture than a simple dignified bow.
This is dignified:
This is dignified:
Even this is dignified:
This is not dignified:
This is much more like the deferential gesture of a sweet submissive subject. His head seems to go lower in the curtsy than the men who bowed in the three photos above.
It is no surprise that a man who can barely express himself in the English language has equal difficulty with body language and non-verbal communication. He’s just a little kid bluffing his way through an important moment because he doesn’t remember what he is supposed to do. A big baby who doesn’t care how stupid he looks to the rest of the world, so long as he believes he has done the right thing (at least I didn’t BOW like Obama—right? Right?):
After the way Rcons acted over perfectly proper acts of cultural courtesy by Obama, it follows their playbook perfectly that they are letting this go just like they overlook all his other dumps on the desk.
I wish AC had not apologized for that neologism because we are going to be using it a lot in the days to come.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Republicon.
Fifth: DJT is just an all around embarrassment.
You can’t take him anywhere. When he steps out of his very very narrow comfort zone he is completely at sea.
Unless he is literally surrounded at every moment by people whose livelihood depends on making him look good and covering for any mistakes he makes, he steps in it knee-deep at every opportunity.
When the President makes state visits he is supposed to be representing the people of the United States.
Instead DJT is a fcuking embarrassment to the vast majority of us.
And this is only the first stop of the first trip. FSM only knows what will happen later on...
don’t embarrass DJT too much over this or he might start a Wag The Dog “war” with Albania
