Well, yes indeedy another week has come and gone and we have no recognizable leader and no clear talking points on how we will help Americans. But we do have another reason to impeach Trump and a special prosecutor has been named to look into Trump’s misdeeds. I do not expect to see any charges placed against Trump. And without a felony conviction, there is zero chance the House will vote to impeach Trump. Egberto wrote a good piece as to why it is a waste of resources to pursue the Russian connection. ( Anyone remember that one? It was all the rage the week before last.) I think the new obstruction of justice brouhaha will have the same effect: It will be our tonic that helps us forget about our disastrous performance in election over the last six years.
I have given myself the unpleasant task of reminding Kos readers that in fact, Democrats have had terrible results in elections during the last six years. I usually get a lot of comments encouraging me to leave the site and saying some pretty flagable things about me when I do this. I don’t flag the comments because I don’t care and I don’t feel insulted but it is unpleasant to see these people feel like they are defending the party by making juvenile comments and trying to exclude me from the “club”.
So the sad fact is, we don’t win elections. That is an unpleasant truth. I am guilty of trying to offer solutions to this problem without having first convinced the general population on Kos that there is a problem. No need to get mad, we are going to be alright. It’s just a question of if we want to do it sooner or later. So did the Democrats go from super majority to minority in two years between 2008 and 2010? What do you think? I think they really did. Did we lose the presidential elections in 2000 and 2016 while winning the popular vote? Yes, I think we did.
So I think these two points are easily verifiable. If you are willing to accept them, let me go one step further, it really won’t affect our prospects for success in the 2018 election if Trump is impeached or not. We will still lose in 2018 if we don’t accept that we have a problem and do something about it. My suggestion is to replace our leadership with younger people who can go on television and look intelligent.
My #1 pick for some type of leadership position is Tulsi Gabbard. Who has been crticized for being a corporate shill. She recently tweeted:
So there you have it. She won’t take PAC or lobbyist money. She has already forsaken corporate donations. So what’s left? Only money from small donors. Do you really want to clean their clock in 2020? People like Tulsi deserve a good look.
I guess Bernie “Dirtshack” Sanders’ influence is spreading. Tulsi is one his great admirers and now she is following his path. Speaking of Bernie “Dirtshack”, he is going all in for Montana congressional candidate Rob Quist. He is not a member of our party yet he is fearlessly throwing in for a long shot candidate in a deep red state. Where are the old guard? Will Nancy, Chuck or Hillary even make one appearance for Rob? Does Rob even want them to appear? Bernie “Dirtshack” is attracting bigger than expected crowds and this will be a good test of his star power. Why not have a unity rally with Nancy, Chuck, Hillary and Bernie in Montana?
In the meantime Hillary has named her super pac StrongerTogether.
